High-Temperature Ordered Intermetallic Alloys VIII: Volume 552
Gebonden Engels 1999 9781558994584Samenvatting
This book focuses on the microstructure, processing and properties of intermetallic compounds. Papers highlight the intensive, world-wide investigation of these materials for structural applications. A number of papers in the titanium- aluminide section focus on dislocation-level mechanisms to explain the observed microstructure-property relationships. Recent work on creep, fatigue and processing are also addressed. Advances in several promising transition-metal silicides are also presented. In particular, niobium silicides are shown to have excellent fracture toughness and creep strength, although oxidation resistance remains a concern. Molybdenum silicides, on the other hand, possess excellent oxidation resistance at high temperatures, but suffer from poor fracture toughness. Presentations on laves phase alloys focus on mechanisms for promoting twinning as a means of improving low-temperature toughness. The importance of computational modelling is demonstrated in several papers on nickel-aluminide-based systems. Topics include: titanium aluminides; iron aluminides; silicides; niobium aluminides, laves phases and other intermetallics; nickel aluminides; and nickel aluminides and other intermetallics
